 From the Mid-Atlantic Node

The MA Node and Central East ATTC co-sponsored their annual training conference Providing Answers: Treatment and Prescription in the Opioid Prescription Epidemic on March 11, 2016. This one-day conference was attended by professionals from local health agencies, primary care settings, and the addiction field. Read more about the conference. . .

Researchers from the Node presented at this year's Addictions in 2016 conference, May 6-7, sponsored by Harvard Medical School and McLean Hospital. Speakers included Roger Weiss, MD, Sharon Levy, MD, and more, speaking on topics like CTN-0030, substance use disorders in adolescents, and managing pain in the context of addiction. Read more. . .

Farewell to Steve Sparenborg

Dear NIDA Colleagues:
After a distinguished career in federal service, our dear colleague, Dr. Steve Sparenborg, has retired from the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and NIDA effective May 1st, 2016. Steve had a long and consistent record of providing high quality advice on the development of treatments for substance abuse. He worked on numerous research projects and generously contributed his expertise to other groups. Steve plans on spending more time traveling, enjoying his grandchildren, and consulting on a part time basis.
The CTN will miss him greatly! |

Maximize CTN Data: Apply for This R01!
 CTN colleagues may be interested to learn about this R01 grant from NIH, which provides the perfect opportunity to maximize CTN data you can find on the NIDA Data Share site.
Accelerating the Pace of Drug Abuse Research Using Existing Data (R01) has been reissued and is now published as PAR-16-234:
http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-16-234.html.
This FOA encourages innovative analysis of existing social science, behavioral, administrative, and neuroimaging data to study the etiology and epidemiology of drug using behaviors and related disorders, prevention of drug use and HIV, and health service utilization. It has been expanded from the prior version to include up to 5 years for the project period and budgets up to $500k per year.
Think about ways to use CTN datasets for this and apply!
