HIV/AIDS-related services in substance abuse treatment settings: Preliminary results.

As part of protocol CTN-0012 (Characteristics of Screening, Evaluation, and Treatment of Sexually Transmitted Infections in Substance Abuse Treatment Programs), all Nodes and CTPs in the CTN were asked to complete surveys describing the HIV/AIDS- related services offered in their treatment programs.

This presentation describes the process by which these surveys were created, distributed, and collected, and offers data demonstrating substantial variation in the availability of HIV/AIDS-related services in CTN treatment programs, with a substantial number offering no HIV/AIDS-related services at all. These are preliminary results of a larger study that aims to fill the information gap about available services for infectious disease in substance abuse treatment programs, providing a basis for later studies on the efficiency of these services and of health outcomes.
