Relationships between the availability of infection-related services & availability of services tailored for subpopulations in substance abuse treatment programs : The NIDA Clinical Trials Network.

As part of protocol CTN-0012 (Characteristics of Screening, Evaluation, and Treatment of Sexually Transmitted Infections in Substance Abuse Treatment Programs), all Nodes and CTPs in the CTN were asked to complete surveys describing the infection-related services offered in their treatment programs, specifically, in this case, those tailored for special populations such as ethnic minorities and women.

This presentation describes the process by which these surveys were created, distributed, and collected, and offers data demonstrating substantial variation in the availability of infection-related services in CTN treatment programs for special populations. These are preliminary results of a larger study that aims to fill the information gap about available services for infectious disease in substance abuse treatment programs, providing a basis for later studies on the efficiency of these services and of health outcomes.
