Supervision and implementation in a CTP.
Evergreen Treatment Services, a CTP in the Washington Node, participated in protocols CTN-0018 and CTN-0019, (Reducing HIV/STD Risk Behaviors : A Research Study for Men/Women in Drug Abuse Treatment). This presentation describes the difference between the study intervention and the treatment-as-usual HIV-education program used at ETS before they became involved in the CTN. It offers information about the recruitment process, and then describes the experiences of everyone involved, including the patients, counselors, and supervisors. After participating in the two protocols, ETS has made a variety of changes to their HIV education program, retaining many, but not all, elements of the protocol’s program. Once study results are available, the agency is also considering utilizing the study’s five session, gender-specific intervention in existing agency groups and with higher-risk patients.
