  • Health System Node: Lessons Learned About Treating Co-occurring Conditions Among Adults Receiving Substance Use Disorder Treatment

    Webinar/Virtual

Co-occurring mental health and physical problems are common among patients receiving treatment for substance use disorders. When present, these issues typically predict poorer functional and substance-related outcomes following treatment. This suggests that addressing co-occurring problems during an episode of substance use disorder treatment could significantly improve a wide range of outcomes. However, prior studies have yielded somewhat inconsistent results regarding the additional and/or synergistic benefits of treating co-occurring mental health and physical problems beyond the standard effects of substance use disorder treatment alone. In this virtual seminar, Dr. Mark Ilgen will briefly review the results of three large-scale randomized trials that targeted distinct issues—chronic pain, suicide risk, and insomnia—commonly faced by patients in substance use disorder treatment. He will then discuss common themes across these studies, as well as potential lessons learned for clinicians and researchers interested in treating complex substance use disorder patients in real-world settings. • CTN T&I SIG: Partnering with Tribal Clinics to Culturally Center the Delivery of Medication Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder: Primary Outcomes from a Formative Implementation Study

    Webinar/Virtual

Join the CTN Translation & Implementation (T&I) SIG on November 18, 2025 (9-10am PT) for their next session: Partnering with Tribal Clinics to Culturally Center the Delivery of Medication Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder: Primary Outcomes from a Formative Implementation Study, presented by Aimee Campbell, PhD and Kamilla Venner, PhD. American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) people exhibit many cultural strengths and resiliencies, yet rates of opioid overdose mortality continue to be the highest of all racial/ethnic groups in the U.S. This presentation will describe the development and testing of an implementation intervention, in partnership with four AI/AN-serving clinics, to culturally center the delivery of MOUD in order to improve implementation outcomes. • CTN Youth SIG Webinar: Advancing Equity Through Implementation Science in Adolescent Substance Use Prevention

    Webinar/Virtual

Join the CTN Youth SIG for their next webinar, Friday, November 21, 2025 (11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. ET), featuring Cady Berkel on "Advancing Equity Through Implementation Science in Adolescent Substance Use Prevention." Presenter: Cady Berkel, PhD Associate Professor College of Health Solutions Arizona State University Culturally and contextually grounded preventive interventions can address upstream risk and protective factors to improve equity, but only if they are implemented in systems that serve underrepresented groups. This presentation will share findings a program of community-based research conducted in partnership with multiple settings (e.g., pediatric primary care, family courts, corrections) to advance equitable access to evidence-based substance use prevention for adolescents and families. The talk will also discuss implementation science frameworks and designs to incorporate equity and accelerate the translation of research into practice. About the speaker:  Dr. Cady Berkel is an Associate Professor in the College of Health Solutions at Arizona State University whose program of federally funded research focuses on advancing equitable access to evidence-based substance use prevention for adolescents and families. Her work to embed parenting interventions in primary care was recognized by NIDA’s Substance Use Prevention Services in Primary Care Challenge. She also serves in national leadership roles, including as a National Advisory Council member for SAMHSA’s Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, a Subject Matter Expert for the CDC’s Community Preventive Services Task Force review of substance use prevention, and Co-Chair of the Society for Prevention Research Standards of Evidence Task Force. • 18th Annual Conference on the Science of Dissemination and Implementation in Health

Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center 201 Waterfront St., National Harbor, MD, United States

This December, individuals on the frontlines of dissemination and implementation (D&I) science will convene to ensure that evidence is used to inform decisions that will improve the health of individuals and communities. Through a combination of plenaries, concurrent sessions, poster presentations, and workshops, the 18th Annual Conference on the Science of Dissemination and Implementation in Health, co-hosted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and AcademyHealth, supports the collective understanding of the research agenda, puts forth new findings, and identifies research priorities to set the field up for the next decade. 2025 Conference Theme Realizing the Benefits of Dissemination & Implementation Science This year’s conference theme will address our existing and future efforts to maximize the benefits of D&I science. While our field has identified and tested a range of strategies to ensure the adoption, integration, sustainment, and spread of effective health interventions, less attention has been focused on the ultimate benefits of successful dissemination and implementation studies. The 18th Annual Science of D&I Conference will explore success stories, methodological advancements, challenges, and opportunities to realize the benefits of our science across health care, community, and public health systems.
