CTN webinar: Family involvement in substance use disorder and mental health treatment and research.

This one hour webinar, produced by the National Drug Abuse Treatment Clinical Trials Network (CTN) Clinical Coordinating Center for CTN members and the public, reviews the impact of substance use disorders (SUDs) on the family system and its members, as well as how family involvement improves client outcomes and satisfaction rates. SUDs not only have an impact on the affected individual, but also on the entire family unit, individual members (including children), and other significant relationship. Strategies to help individuals in treatment address family issues are discussed, as well as strategies to include the family in treatment. Family treatment interventions are briefly reviewed, with an emphasis on recovery and wellness for family members.

Objectives include:

  • Identifying the impact of SUDs on families and their members.
  • Reviewing strategies for the patient in treatment to address family issues.
  • Reviewing clinical interventions to help families.

This webinar is targeted to all research staff, but in the CTN and the general public.

Presented by Dennis C. Daley, PhD, LSW (University of Pittsburgh, ATS Node) and John A. Hamilton, LMFT, LADC (Recovery Network of Programs, NEC Node).
