This cluster of symptoms is now recognized as Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS). As CHS becomes more visible in clinical settings, providers are left navigating care without clear understanding or guidance. At the same time, while 1 in 10 Washingtonians who consumed cannabis in the last year report vomiting and nausea due to their cannabis use2, many people remain skeptical that the condition exists at all, creating challenges for treatment, prevention and health education. To better understand these dynamics, we are making CHS the focus of this year’s ADAI Symposium. AMERSA — the Association for Multidisciplinary Education and Research in Substance Use and Addiction — celebrates its 50th Annual Conference November 12–14, 2026 in Washington, DC. The program brings together physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, counselors, researchers, peer recovery professionals, and people with lived and living experience with plenaries on emerging drugs of concern, contingency management, cannabis and psilocybin regulation, DC/Maryland policy innovation, and the evidence on GLP-1s.
