    Webinar: Opioid Clinical Decision Support in Primary Care: CTN-0095 (1.5 CME/CE; June 26, 2024)

In this session, Opioid Clinical Decision Support in Primary Care: CTN-0095, presenters Stephanie Hooker, PhD, MPH (HealthPartners Institute), and Rebecca Rossom, MD, MS (HealthPartners Institute and PI of the CTN NorthStar Node), will discuss the design and implementation of Opioid Wizard, a clinical decision support tool embedded in the EHR for primary care clinicians. The goal of the Opioid Wizard tool is to help clinicians identify, screen, diagnose and treat opioid use disorder (OUD). They will also discuss one of the supplements to CTN 0095, which tested a training to reduce stigma towards people with OUD among primary care clinicians. 1.5 CME / CE available!     AHSR 2024: Abstract Submission Deadline Extended to May 10!

    AHSR is still accepting individual presentation and symposium abstracts for innovative and impactful research that moves the field of addiction forward. Abstracts must be submitted by the person who intends to present the study in the case of an individual presentation, and by the chair/moderator in the case of a symposium session. We anticipate that accepted abstracts will be published in a peer-reviewed journal. The deadline for all submissions is Friday, May 10, 2024, at 11:59 PM PT. The AHSR Early Career Investigator Award recognizes scholars with early achievements and exceptional promise for future contributions to addiction health services research. Continuing the tradition of recognizing and supporting the next generation of researchers, we will select up to six awardees to be recognized at the 2024 conference. Each awardee will receive a financial award to help offset conference travel and registration. Deadline to apply for the Early Career Investigator Award is Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 11:59 PM PT.     The Addiction Health Services Research (AHSR) conference, held since 2005, brings together researchers, policymakers, and treatment providers to solve the problems of inequity, access, effectiveness, and implementation of addiction services. This conference has been hosted across the United States at leading institutions, including Weill Cornell Medicine, Brandeis University, the University of Utah School of Medicine, Brown University, and more. This year, the conference is hosted by the Center for Dissemination and Implementation (CDI), a Stanford University initiative, at the historic Palace Hotel in the beautiful and bustling city of San Francisco, near quintessential landmarks including the cable cars and Chinatown. About the presenter As an emergency department (ED) physician, Dr. Mashkuri has a special interest in low barrier access to care for people who use drugs.  He has developed and implemented community treatment pathways involving ED based medication assisted treatment and facilitated linkage to follow up care. He works closely with peer recovery specialists embedded in the ED to address the needs of ED patients with substance use disorder. Dr. Mashkuri finds that peers can connect with patients in ways that ED physicians and nurses without lived experience cannot.   Dr. Mashkuri served as Medical Director at the Central Vermont Medical Center Emergency Department from 2016-2021.     CTN WS Node / ATTC Webinar: Cannabis and Mental Health (Feb 28, 11am PT)

    The CTN Western States Node and the Northwest and Pacific Southwest ATTCs are hosting their next joint webinar on February 28, 2024, from 11am-12:30pm PT. In this session, Natania Crane, PhD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Associate Director of the UIC Recovery Clinic, will provide current information on research and treatment related to cannabis use and mental health, including recent changes in cannabis use, how the endocannabinoid system may regulate mental health symptoms, and what we currently know about cannabis use and mental health. Dr. Natania Crane’s research uses multiple methods (i.e., fMRI, EEG, cognitive, clinical, and self-report measures) to examine the brain and behavioral risk factors and consequences of substance use disorders, especially cannabis use disorder. An important aspect of her research is studying the relationship between clinical mental health factors and substance use, particularly between depression and cannabis use. Dr. Crane has received numerous awards, including a K23 Early Career Development Award from the National Institute on Drug Abuse. This talk will outline the process and outcomes involved with the past 15 years of this NIH-funded research. About the presenter Dr. Lynn Fiellin is a Professor of Biomedical Data Science and the Center for Technology & Behavioral Health at Dartmouth College, Professor Adjunct at Yale, and the Founding Director of the play2PREVENT (p2P) Lab where she and her team focus on developing and evaluating digital health games. These games, as “serious videogames,” impact the health and well-being of adolescents, including opioid misuse, smoking/vaping, mental health, and sexual health.
