Daniel Feaster (MPI, CTN Florida Node Alliance), Sannisha Dale, and Viviana Horigian (Executive Director, CTN Florida Node Alliance), and housed under the University of Miami Center for HIV and Research in Mental Health (CHARM), CHANGE – Culturally-focused HIV Advancements through the Next Generation for Equity – offers a great opportunity to develop the next generation of researchers with the expertise to successfully address HIV and Mental Health disparities throughout the HIV prevention and treatment cascades using community-engaged research, implementation, and dissemination. Attention Early-Career Investigators: Apply for the 2024 LEAD Program!
The Learning for Early Careers in Addiction and Diversity (LEAD) Program provides training to early-career research scientists from racial/ethnic minoritized groups that are underrepresented in the substance use and substance use disorder research field. [download/share flyer, updated 9/15/2023] The program uses the NIDA Clinical Trials Network (CTN) as a platform for training early-career investigators. This 3-year training program is based at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and visiting scholars spend three summers in a 4-week intensive program at UCSF. During the academic year, scholars work with their primary mentor to collaborate on substance use and substance use disorder treatment research conducted in the CTN, develop a professional research network, and conduct a pilot study that will serve as a preliminary study for subsequent NIH funding. The program provides travel and housing funds for scholars, as well as pilot study funding. The 2024 summer program begins on July 8th and ends August 2nd. Youth SIG Webinar: Assessing Mental Health Among Young U.S. Females (Sept. 15, 11am ET)
The CTN Youth Special Interest Group (Youth SIG) invites you to join them for their next webinar, “Assessing Mental Health Among Young U.S. Females: Learning Insights from Girls for Health (LIGHT) Research Study,” September 15, 2023, 11am-12pm ET. The LIGHT study held focus groups with adolescent and young adult females to talk about their mental health concerns and improve understanding of the best ways to assess and help them with those concerns. In this webinar, Dr. Viviana Horigian, MD, MHA, Executive Director of the CTN Florida Node Alliance, will present the background, approach, and preliminary results of the study, sharing lessons learned and opening the discussion to seek input from members on next steps.
